Hydration Station

We all know the importance of water. We've been told from a young age that it's one of the most important things for our bodies and that we should be drinking around 8 glasses a day of it. Headache? Drink some water. Tired? Have a glass of water. Ill? You need some water. See where I'm going with this? I can't be the only one who struggles with drinking water. It's something I've tried to urge myself to do for so long because I know of the countless benefits, but I just never seem to drink as much as I should!

Recently, I've been trying out a few new things to try and increase my water intake and I've been really pleased with how much more I have been reaching for the water! I decided if it worked for me, hopefully it might work for a few of you too!

Morning Glass of Water

Not only does it wake you up, it kickstarts your body for the day ahead, flushing out toxins and just cleaning out your body. Put a glass of cold water by your bed the night before so you're all set for the morning!

Water Bottle

Since I started carrying around a water bottle, I've drank so much more water than I ever have. By just having it with me, I end up subconsciously sipping and finishing a bottle without even realising. If you've got water with you, I can guarantee you'll drink a lot more water! Another tip would be to invest in a fun reusable bottle that you'll actually want to take out with you!

(If you're interested in the water bottle I'm currently using, it's from the brand Avex)

Infuse It!

Some people simply don't like the bland taste of water. I used to be like that, but now I actually enjoy it. However, if you still can't get yourself to drink it because of its tastelessness, try and infuse it with some fruit. Infusing your water can also have a bunch of health benefits like flushing out toxins, keeping you refreshed and improving your mood. You can get bottles specifically designed for infusing, but I just re- use an old glass water bottle that I bought from the supermarket. A personal favourite combination of mine is a couple slices of lemon and some mint - it tastes incredible! I would also recommend strawberry and mint - mmmmm!

Set Reminders

In the digital age we live in, reminding yourself to drink up could never be easier. A really easy way to remember to drink water is to simply set a reminder on your phone or your watch. Set a reminder every hour or so and vouch to drink a certain amount. You'd be surprised how much you drink throughout the day.

Apps

Keeping on the digital theme, there are now some apps to help you out (yes, really!). I don't use these personally as my water bottle has markings on it to tell me how much I've drank, but there are a variety of apps available if you prefer to see visuals of how much water you've consumed. One that I hear a lot of good things about is Waterlogged, so it would be worth having a look at that if it's something you're interested in!

Get Moving!

Do some exercise. I know, it's not exactly what we all want to hear, but it is a sure way for you to drink more water! I actually really enjoy exercising so this isn't too difficult for me, but I understand it's not so loved by everyone else... It's fairly obvious though; the more you exercise, the more you sweat. The more you sweat out, the more liquids you need to take in.

Benefits

Think of the benefits. This isn't a physical way to actually drink more water, but it is one that definitely helped me. We've all been told that water is one of the best things for us, and it's true. It relieves fatigue, improves your mood, treats headaches, helps digestion, aids weight loss, clears skin and flushes out toxins. These are only a few of the benefits, so think how much more it does for us. Sometimes just thinking of the benefits will encourage you to sip a bit more!

So that's some of the tips that have helped me improve my hydration levels! How about you? Are you drinking as much as you should? Let me know if any of these tips come in handy, I'd love to hear!

Until Next Time!

  4. I now drink 2 litres of water a day and I have been for the past 3 weeks, but I used to barely manage to drink 1 glass. I think the hardest part for me is that I get no signs of thirst... I get no headaches and I hardly ever used to feel thirsty. Now that I drink more water I actually feel thirsty a lot!

  5. These are such awesome tips! I love the idea of infusing your water, the strawberries look so pretty in there too! I have started taking water to bed with me so I can keep hydrated in the night and diluting my fruit juice with water - I actually prefer to drink it that way now haha! :D Following you on GFC, love your blog! xx

  9. I certainly don't drink enough water. In fact I live on drinks that do the very opposite and dehydrate my body. Damn you tea and coffee (tastes so good though) lol :( X
